Onboarding Process for UNCA Board Certified 
Chaplaincy Program




After completing the initial Camden University Fundamentals of Chaplaincy course, Camden’s Advanced Chaplaincy courses, served six (6) months as an Event Base Responder, accrued required volunteer field

Review of Job Description
                         Submit application documents online:                               

Upon assessment of your application, a Board Certified Chaplain Program administrator will contact you regarding educational prerequisites, if applicable.

  • Monitor email for reply regarding approval
  • Attend Interest Meeting (Date to be Announced)
  • Complete Phone Interview with an UNCA Senior Member
  • Attend In-Person meeting with UNCA Senior Member (Discuss job description during the meeting)
  • Upload two (2) letters of acceptance (1 from UNCA and 1 from Camden University)
  • Register for Board Certified Chaplaincy courses upon approved enrollment status
  • Make online payment for tuition
  • Begin Board Certified Chaplaincy Curriculum

           Level 1 – Existing Chaplaincy experience and education

           Level 2 – Substantial Chaplain experience and education

           Level 3 – Senior Leader with an established community service program 

(Chaplaincy Level will be determined by application, documentation and interview process.)

  • Address the Chaplaincy Certification Board for Certification

                        A BOARD-CERTIFIED CHAPLAIN 

 AREAS OF DISCIPLINE AND CONCENTRATION: (Specific job descriptions included in the contract)

Societal Re-Instatement and Development: OJT and Deployment in this position seeks strategies that address the needs and services of the ex-offender and strengthens the process of re-entry into the community.  Tasks include networking with criminal justice organizations, resources and establishing impactful services.

Community and Economic Development: OJT and Deployment in this position provide opportunities to take a leadership role in leveraging and channeling marginalized communities.  Tasks include: participating in the city, county strategic planning, integrating into business enterprises and negotiating resources.

Crisis Counseling and Prevention: OJT and Deployment in this position are for those interested in being the provider of hope and optimism in situations that seem hopeless.  Counseling in acute emergencies, urgent circumstances, and disasters.  A high degree of creativity and improvisation is essential.  Tasks include participation in simulations with the crisis, emergency management, and mental health professionals, to teach problem-solving skills and give structure to crisis survivors.

Disaster Response and Relief: OJT and Deployment in this position require a high level of stamina to provide for survival services and critical care to those victimized by crisis, emergencies and major disasters. One must be able to demonstrate compassion and strength.

* Educational requirements may be waived based upon documented experience and UNCA Board approval.

**UNCA considers reciprocation of those certified under other organizations on a case by case basis.
